Kuparuk CPF-1 North Slope of Alaska (ConocoPhillips Alaksa Inc.)
- Maintenance of existing Instrumentation and Controls systems and commissioning of capital upgrade projects including 7 turbine controls panel retrofits.
- Site equipment included a GE Frame6 generator set with MarkVe controls, GE Frame3 compressor drives with TI-505 PLC based Petrotech control systems, Ruston TG5000 generator sets with Rustronics analog control panels, a wide variety of process control equipment including everything from pneumatic controllers to TI PLCs, Bailey Infi-90, and the latest generation of Siemens S7 PLCs.
- Championed the effort to retrofit Kuparuk’s Frame6 MarkV control panel with MarkVIe processors (MarkV upgrade path). Project executed successfully on a very short cycle (less than 18 weeks from P.O. to commissioning).
- Right-sized and upgraded CPF-1’s 1st stage gas compressor recycle valves resulting in substantially smoother plant operations and eliminated the need to shutdown a compressor set on hot summer days.
- Conceived, designed, and implemented load sharing system on CPF-1’s three Frame3 compressor drives to reduce recycle demand during the winter months.
- Commissioned four Rustronics to Siemens S7 turbine control panel upgrades on Ruston TB5000 generator sets.
- Participated in LCA investigations.
- Provided ongoing rotating equipment support to sister field at Alpine. Led the commissioning effort on the retrofit of Alpine’s Frame5 generator control panel in 2016. This was a Mark5 to Mark6e rip and replace upgrade.

- As a Start-up team member, assisted in commissioning of one GE medium steam turbine and new Balance of Plant systems associated with the turbine.

- Worked closely with GE representatives in troubleshooting an “on-the-fly” HMI upgrade.

- Worked solo as the liaison between the instrumentation construction and start-up teams while reporting directly to the Electrical Construction Manager. Plant consisted of two Siemens combustion turbines in a combined cycle configuration with one steamer.

- Performed service calls and headed minor commissioning projects on Woodward governors for all manner of applications from 350HP paper line drives to 1MW emergency diesel gensets to 600MW Westinghouse steam turbine generators.
- Commissioned or performed service calls on the 2301, 505, 501, 503, 509, NetCon F/T, MicroNet simplex, and MicroNet TMR model governors. Also commissioned DSLC load controllers, Protech 203 overspeed protection systems and serviced a wide variety of third party control equipment, as customer needs required.

- Maintained existing and installed new instrumentation, motors, VFDs, and MCC buckets. Primary area of responsibility was the Mill including Corn Storage and Feed Load-out. The Mill contained the most difficult applications in the plant.
- Worked extensively with uncommon instruments such as Krohne Mass and Mag-Flow meters, radar and capacitive level transmitters.

Commissioning of five Woodward Atlas Governors with iFix HMIs controlling Nicolaev-Mashprayeva aeroderivatives driving Sumy-Frunze Compressors. The control system for this natural gas compressor station was engineered by GE GCS in Bracknell, UK from start to finish inclusive of turbine/compressor controls with anti-surge, the overall station control and load balancing between the units (also with a Woodward Atlas), sub-system station control with two GE Versamax PLCs and fire control panels by Kidde Italia. Very little Russian and virtually no Turkmen, Uzbek, or Ukrainian language skills. All critical work and virtually all work onsite was executed with the assistance of Russian language translators.
